On Tuesday, April 21,
2009 the Coral Springs City Commission presented a
Lifesaving Commendation from the Coral Springs Fire
Department, to Cadet Emmanuel Torres, 14, of the Coral
Springs Civil Air Patrol squadron. On March 5, 2009,
Torres responded to an emergency situation in which a
young student at the Coral Springs Charter School
couldn’t breathe. Cadet Emmanuel Torres performed the
Heimlich maneuver several times on the 10 year-old girl,
thereby saving her life.
“Your bravery is
wonderful and your preparation was excellent and that’s
one of the things we teach you what we do through the
Civil Air Patrol,” Mayor Scott Brook said. “We have some
wonderful young role models in our community, like this
cadet, that make a difference in people’s lives.”
