US Army Major-General Read, attended a promotions ceremony event in Coral Springs on January 25. Several outstanding cadet members of the US Air Force Auxiliary; the Civil Air Patrol, were promoted in rank for special achievements. The event took place at the Coral Springs Charter School on Thursday night. Coral Springs Squadron Commander Captain Bruce Sage introduced US Army Major-General Read during the ceremony, making a point that his visiting this squadron for this event was a special and unusual honor. Major-General Read spoke to the squadron about the essential role today’s youth will play in the future of the United States and the importance of those who serve. One of the objectives is to instill an interest in aerospace, which has far-reaching possibilities. The Civil Air Patrol is the US Air Force Auxiliary and has been in existence since December 1941. Today it is involved in far more causes and activities. It is also contributing in an area of importance that many people are not aware of; The United States of America has an increasing need for engineers and technicians. In fact there’s a real shortage. For America to stay in the forefront of the world’s technology and space exploration, it is essential to inspire and encourage thousands more of the youth of this land to embrace a more promising future in high-tech trades and professions. The Civil Air Patrol not only instills pride in its members, both cadets and senior members and visions for the future also. It develops a direction that is more idealistic and motivating by providing leadership training, technical education, scholarships and career education to young men and women, ages 12 to 21. CAP members, including cadets, volunteer their time in public schools, teaching respect, manners and personal accountability in a drug-free environment. The senior officers of the Civil Air Patrol see the need for education, leadership, sound values and direction as paramount. These are the main reasons volunteer officers such as Coral Springs Cadet Squadron Commander Captain Bruce Sage, Deputy Commander 1st Lieutenant Mitch Drucker, Legal Officer Major Norman Kaplan , Lt. Col. Jeff Stahl and other senior officers are so dedicated. Beginning with an interest in, aviation and the many other activities and services provided by the Civil Air Patrol, it all contributes to the national essential efforts being made in inspiring the youth and leading them toward positive attainable and promising goals for a bright future.
